Chris Brown, S/N*
Advanced Piloting

Chris joined USPS in 1974 basically to learn celestial navigation.  He started teaching Squadron classes  in 1975,  and over the years has taught various courses. He today brings extensive real-world experience and  deep insight to his classes.

His significant boating experience includes cruising and racing small sailboats (34 to 53 feet) in the Caribbean, North Sea, the Baltic, the Pacific Ocean, and off Mexico.  He has transited the Panama Canal (on a 42 foot sailboat).  For three years, Chris and his wife lived on their 40 foot sailboat , aboard which they sailed from Seattle down the west coast into Mexico; then crossed the Pacific from Mazatlan to Tahiti, and on to Bora Bora.

His Power Squadron leadership positions have included:

•Rear Commander of the Instructor Development Committee, and
•Current Staff Commander on the Boat Operator Certification committee.

At present,  he is rebuilding a small 27 foot sailboat, and often threatens to sail west into the sunset once again.

*NOTE:  SN indicates someone who has achieved senior navigator status, as a result of successfully  completing  all of the advanced  piloting and navigation classes  offered  by the US Power Squadron. It is the organization’s highest level of boating education and demonstrated expertise.
