Vern brings deep experience to the Squadron’s Weather and Marine Electronics courses. He  learned to sail in college, and bought a sailboat in 1986.  He has been teaching  the Weather class for almost 20 years.

He jokes that initially his qualification for teaching weather was  “that  I had passed the course. But then I realized I  was increasingly interested in the subject, and aware that improvements to the course were needed to adequately describe weather conditions and events in our boating area.  As a result, my course presentation is updated frequently to discuss local conditions and situations a skipper should be prepared for.”

A retired engineer with a background in Electrical and Software Engineering, he has held several key leadership positions within the Bellevue Sail and Power Squadron.
